Christkindl's Cracker Christmas Events

Downpatrick is getting ready for a festive season to be remembered this year; with a brand new bespoke lighting scheme and the biggest Christmas tree ever seen in the town providing the perfect backdrop for what is set to be the biggest Christmas switch-on yet in St Patrick’s Square.

There will also be lots of fabulous festive family fun in Market Street courtesy of the newly established Downpatrick Chamber of Commerce. With animated characters, face painting, goodie bags in selected stores and fantastic spot prizes on offer. So for a magical experience this December, make Downpatrick your Christmas destination.

Narnia: Children of the Blitz

On Saturday 26 November and Saturday 3 & 17 December why not take a trip into Christmas past with Down County Museum and learn more about what children in County Down experienced when they were evacuated in WWII. For further details contact 028 4461 5218.

Santa’s House at Castle Ward

From 30 November – 22 December Santa welcomes you back again to Castle Ward this festive season. Come and sit by the log fire as he tells you the wonderful story of Christmas while Mrs Claus serves warm mince pies and mulled punch. For further information contact 028 4488 1204

Santa in Narnia at The Saint Patrick Centre

From 30 November – 24 December The Saint Patrick Centre once again invites you to journey through the wardrobe into the magical land of C S Lewis’s Narnia. Children will be taken on an exciting journey through this mythical land, visiting the lamp post in the snowy wood, hear extracts of the stories told by characters from the books, cross a frozen waterfall and write their letters to Santa in the cosy Beaver’s Lodge. The Lapland Express

From Saturday26 and Sunday 27 November and every Saturday and Sunday until 18 Decembertravel with Santa onboard the steam train, sing Christmas songs on the train, meet Santa and tell him your Christmas wish list. For more information visit www.downrail.co.uk

Christkindl Lights up Downpatrick

The official Christmas Lights switch will take place on Thursday 1 December at 6.30pm. Come and join BBC Radio Ulster’s Alan Simpson as he guides you through the fabulous festive fun on offer. St Patrick’s Square will come alive as some of the UK and Ireland’s leading stilt walkers will weave through the enchanted crowds. Live music from Ireland’s freshest and youngest band, ‘The Professionals’, will get the crowds feeling merry with their enthusiastic and entertaining performance. With lots of other musical entertainment on offer wrap up warm and come and have a ‘Wonderful Christmas Time’.

C21 Theatre Company Presents Hansel & Gretel

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the seasonal pantomime and this year the district is hosting c21 Theatre Company’s production of ‘Hansel & Gretel’, on Friday 2 December in The Great Hall, Downpatrick.

The McPeake Band Christmas Concert

On Friday 9 December The McPeake Band are hitting Down Arts Centre, playing music from Ireland, popular carols and instrumental numbers, upbeat dance tunes and original McPeake compositions to celebrate the Christmas season. Tickets are available by booking direct on 028 4461 2233.

Christmas at the old Gaol

Enjoy a special day packed full of festive fun featuring craft making for kids, Christmas music and song at Down County Museum on Saturday 10 December from 11.00am – 5.00pm. Visit Santa’s Grotto at the old Gaol for a unique seasonal experience and get a fantastic present and photo. Please note admission to Down County Museum is FREE however there will be a £5 admission charge to visit Santa’s Grotto, for more information contact 028 4461 5218.
